RESUMO

Electrocatalytic reduction of nitrate to ammonia provides a green alternate to the Haber-Bosch method, yet it suffers from sluggish kinetics and a low yield rate. The nitrate reduction follows a tandem reaction of nitrate reduction to nitrite and subsequent nitrite hydrogenation to generate ammonia, and the ammonia Faraday efficiency (FE) is limited by the competitive hydrogen evolution reaction. Herein, we design a heterostructure catalyst to remedy the above issues, which consists of Ni nanosphere core and Ni(OH)2 nanosheet shell (Ni/Ni(OH)2). In-situ Raman spectroscopy reveals Ni and Ni(OH)2 are interconvertible according to the applied potential, facilitating the cascade nitrate reduction synergistically. Consequently, it attains superior electrocatalytic nitrate reduction performance with an ammonia FE of 98.50% and a current density of 0.934 A cm-2 at -0.476 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode, and exhibits an average ammonia yield rate of 84.74 mg h-1 cm-2 during the 102-hour stability test, which is highly superior to the reported catalysts tested under similar conditions. Density functional theory calculations corroborate the synergistic effect of Ni and Ni(OH)2 in the tandem reaction of nitrate reduction. Moreover, the Ni/Ni(OH)2 catalyst also possesses good capability for methanol oxidation and thus is used to establish a system coupling with nitrate reduction.

RESUMO

China's rural residents have basically solved the problem of subsistence, but due to aging, the prevalence of sarcopenia (abbreviated as sarcopenia) has been increasing year by year, especially the skeletal muscle health of the rural older residents has not been sufficiently paid attention to, so analyses of the impact of income level on the skeletal muscle health of the older people in rural areas of China are of great practical significance. Based on the annual data of the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS) in 2006, 2009, and 2011, we introduced the mediator variable of dietary knowledge and used the Probit model regression, mediation effect model, and instrumental variable regression to assess the skeletal muscle health status of the rural older people in China and explore the mechanism of the influence of the income level on the skeletal muscle health of the rural older residents in China. The primary objectives of this study were to evaluate the impact of income level on the skeletal muscle health status of older adults living in rural areas of China and to investigate the underlying mechanisms. By analyzing the findings of this study, our aim is to establish a correlation between the economic status and skeletal muscle health of older adults in rural communities, as well as elucidate the influence of income level and dietary knowledge on their skeletal muscle health. Through the attainment of these objectives, we hope to provide valuable insights and recommendations for enhancing skeletal muscle health among the rural older population in China. Based on our research findings, it can be inferred that there was a significant association between the financial status of rural older adults and their skeletal muscle health. Additionally, the prevalence of sarcopenia was lower among individuals with higher income levels, and there was a negative correlation between the prevalence of sarcopenia and the level of dietary knowledge among rural older individuals. The knowledge of dietary knowledge level of rural older people plays a mediating role in the income level and the prevalence of sarcopenia. Moreover, with the change in income level and the increase in age, the change in skeletal muscle health status showed obvious heterogeneity, in which the effect on the relatively younger (65-70 years old) samples was greater. Therefore, sustained income growth remains an effective way to improve the skeletal muscle health of older rural residents. At the same time, improving dietary knowledge and dietary quality among the older people is important in preventing a decline in muscle strength and physical function and in preventing the onset of sarcopenia.

RESUMO

Exploring an active and cost-effective electrocatalyst alternative to carbon-supported platinum nanoparticles for alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) have remained elusive to date. Here, we report a catalyst based on platinum single atoms (SAs) doped into the hetero-interfaced Ru/RuO2 support (referred to as Pt-Ru/RuO2), which features a low HER overpotential, an excellent stability and a distinctly enhanced cost-based activity compared to commercial Pt/C and Ru/C in 1 M KOH. Advanced physico-chemical characterizations disclose that the sluggish water dissociation is accelerated by RuO2 while Pt SAs and the metallic Ru facilitate the subsequent H* combination. Theoretical calculations correlate with the experimental findings. Furthermore, Pt-Ru/RuO2 only requires 1.90 V to reach 1 A cm-2 and delivers a high price activity in the anion exchange membrane water electrolyzer, outperforming the benchmark Pt/C. This research offers a feasible guidance for developing the noble metal-based catalysts with high performance and low cost toward practical H2 production.

RESUMO

Stable solid electrolytes are essential to high-safety and high-energy-density lithium batteries, especially for applications with high-voltage cathodes. In such conditions, solid electrolytes may experience severe oxidation, decomposition, and deactivation during charging at high voltages, leading to inadequate cycling performance and even cell failure. Here, we address the high-voltage limitation of halide solid electrolytes by introducing local lattice distortion to confine the distribution of Cl-, which effectively curbs kinetics of their oxidation. The confinement is realized by substituting In with multiple elements in Li3InCl6 to give a high-entropy Li2.75Y0.16Er0.16Yb0.16In0.25Zr0.25Cl6. Meanwhile, the lattice distortion promotes longer Li-Cl bonds, facilitating favorable activation of Li+. Our results show that this high-entropy halide electrolyte boosts the cycle stability of all-solid-state battery by 250% improvement over 500 cycles. In particular, the cell provides a higher discharge capacity of 185 mAh g-1 by increasing the charge cut-off voltage to 4.6 V at a small current rate of 0.2 C, which is more challenging to electrolytes|cathode stability. These findings deepen our understanding of high-entropy materials, advancing their use in energy-related applications.

RESUMO

In rural areas, the aging of households is becoming increasingly severe, and the issue of dietary imbalance among the elderly is becoming increasingly prominent. Using data from the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS), the negative binomial regression method was used to investigate the impact of household income level on dietary imbalance among rural elderly people, and to explore the heterogeneity of household income structure and its role in the relationship between the two. Research has found that an increase in total household income significantly improves the dietary quality of rural elderly people, and the income structure variable enhances its negative pulling effect on dietary imbalance. For elderly people with moderate dietary imbalance, the effect of increased family income is most significant. In different income groups, the impact of total household income on dietary imbalance in the high-income group is greater than that in the low-income group, and there is also a significant difference in the role played by the proportion of net income from agricultural operations. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the non working income of the elderly, strengthen social responsibility for elderly care, and alleviate the problem of dietary imbalance among rural elderly people.

RESUMO

Anode-free solid-state batteries (AFSSBs) are considered to be one of the most promising high-safety and high-energy storage systems. However, low Coulombic efficiency stemming from severe deterioration on solid electrolyte/current collector (Cu foil) interface and undesirable Li dendrite growth impede their practical application, especially when rigid garnet electrolyte is used. Here, an interfacial engineering strategy between garnet electrolyte and Cu foil is introduced for stable and highly efficient AFSSBs. By utilizing the high Li ion conductivity of LiC6 layer, interfacial self-adaption ability arising from ductile lithiated polyacrylic acid polymer layer and regulated Li deposition via Li-Ag alloying reaction, the garnet-based AFSSB delivers a stable long-term operation. Additionally, when combined with a commercial LiCoO2 cathode (3.1 mAh cm-2 ), the cell also exhibits an outstanding capacity retention due to the tailored interface design. The strategies for novel AFSSBs architecture thus offer an alternative route to design next-generation batteries with high safety and high density.

RESUMO

Background: Though nanomedicine-based photothermal therapy (PTT) has demonstrated promising prospect in tumor treatment due to its high therapeutic efficiency and controllable range, the overexpression of heat shock proteins (HSPs) during PTT can lead to intracellular thermal resistance and reduce its effectiveness. Reactive oxygen species (ROS), followed by the application of chemodynamic therapy (CDT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT), can eliminate HSPs and overcome thermal resistance. However, the tumor microenvironment, including hypoxia and glutathione (GSH) overexpression, impedes the production of ROS and therapeutic efficacy of CDT and PDT. Therefore, we proposed a multifunctional nanoplatform (HMPB@TCPP-Cu) driving PTT/ PDT/ CDT synergistic therapy for tumor treatment via modulating ROS and HSPs. Methods and Results: In this work, a novel nanoplatform (HMPB@TCPP-Cu) composed of O2/PTT supplier HMPB (hollow mesoporous Prussian blue) and the loaded PDT/CDT agent (TCPP-Cu2+) was prepared. HMPB acts as an photothermal converter, effectively raising the tumor temperature and inducing apoptosis. HMPB is also a potent catalase-like nanozyme, which can catalyze hydrogen peroxide into oxygen and reduce tumor hypoxia, thus elevating the efficiency of ROS production and the effectiveness of PDT with the wing of sonosensitizer-TCPP. The intracellular glutathione(GSH) was depleted by Cu2+ and •OH was generated along with the Cu2+/Cu+ converting and Cu+-mediated Fenton-like reaction. Subsequently, the increased levels of ROS effectively eliminate intratumoral thermal resistance. The HMPB@TCPP-Cu has achieved synergistic PTT/PDT/CDT for hepatoblastoma treatment and significant inhibition of tumor growth was detected both in vitro and in vivo. Conclusion: This study presents a multifunctional nanoplatform that combines photothermal/ chemodynamic/ photodynamic therapy for efficient hepatoblastoma treatment via modulating ROS and HSPs. Collectively, this study provides an appealing strategy in the cleavage of thermal resistance and a novel assistance and enhancement on thermal-related therapies.

RESUMO

Urothelial carcinoma (UC) with deficient mismatch repair (dMMR) is a specific subtype of UC characterized by the loss of mismatch repair (MMR) proteins and its association with Lynch syndrome (LS). However, comprehensive real-world data on the incidence, clinicopathological characteristics, molecular landscape, and biomarker landscape for predicting the efficacy of PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors in the Chinese patients with dMMR UC remains unknown. We analyzed 374 patients with bladder urothelial carcinoma (BUC) and 232 patients with upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) using tissue microarrays, immunohistochemistry, and targeted next-generation sequencing. Results showed the incidence of dMMR UC was higher in the upper urinary tract than in the bladder. Genomic analysis identified frequent mutations in KMT2D and KMT2C genes and LS was confirmed in 53.8% of dMMR UC cases. dMMR UC cases displayed microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H) (PCR method) in 91.7% and tumor mutational burden-high (TMB-H) in 40% of cases. The density of intratumoral CD8+ T cells correlated with better overall survival in dMMR UC patients. Positive PD-L1 expression was found in 20% cases, but some patients positively responded to immunotherapy despite negative PD-L1 expression. Our findings provide valuable insights into the characteristics of dMMR UC in the Chinese population and highlights the relevance of genetic testing and immunotherapy biomarkers for treatment decisions.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Metabolic reprogramming refers to tumor-associated metabolic alterations during tumorigenesis and has been regarded as one of the most important features of cancer. Profiling the altered metabolites and lipids in hepatocellular carcinoma with spatial signature will not only enhance our understanding of tumor metabolic reprogramming, but also offer potential metabolic liabilities that might be exploited for hepatocellular carcinoma therapy. METHODS: We perform matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-mass spectrometry imaging (MALDI-MSI) analysis on both hepatocellular carcinoma xenograft mouse model and hepatocellular carcinoma patients. Discriminatory metabolites that altered during the development of hepatocellular carcinoma are screened and imaged in xenograft mouse model and are further validated in 21 hepatocellular carcinoma patients. RESULTS: We discover stepwise metabolic alterations and progressively increasing metabolic heterogeneity during the growth of hepatocellular carcinoma. Arginine and its metabolites spermine and spermidine, choline and phosphatidylcholine metabolism, and fatty acids were found to be significantly reprogrammed in hepatocellular carcinoma tissues. CONCLUSIONS: The spatially resolved profiling of the metabolites and lipids in highly heterogeneous hepatocellular carcinoma tissue will contribute to obtaining precise metabolic information for the understanding of tumor metabolic reprogramming.

RESUMO

The method proposed by Suchey-Brooks for adult age estimation based on the surface morphology of the pubic symphysis has been widely accepted. The applicability of the method varies considerably in different populations. The present study established a virtual reference sample and aimed to develop population-specific criteria that can be used for age estimation in different skeletal samples. First, The dry bone specimens from 100 individuals were compared with their corresponding three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction model and showed high inter-method agreement (k = 0.743-0.811), suggesting that the virtual bone model and physical bone specimens have comparable performances in describing the surface morphology of the pubic symphysis. We retrospectively collected clinical computed tomography (CT) data from 895 Chinese patients to create a virtual reference sample of the pubic symphysis. Based on the original Suchey-Brooks method, each of the 895 reference samples was assigned a phase, for each sex and phase, data on the mean age, standard deviation, and 95% age range of the corresponding sample were obtained, which was then used as the "method modified for Chinese" (modified method) and compared to the "SB method". Compared to the SB method, modified method had a lower inaccuracy in dry bones for males over 35 years and females over 45 years, in dry bone CT test sample for males over 55 years and females over 45 years, and in postmortem CT test sample for males over 35 years and females over 55 years. The modified method can improve the accuracy of age estimation for older samples over 40 years. It has shown considerable reliability when applied as a population-specific criterion, but its accuracy is still not sufficient, and caution is needed when using it.

RESUMO

The rational design of novel high-performance cathode materials for sodium-ion batteries is a challenge for the development of the renewable energy sector. Here, a new sodium-deficient NASICON phosphate, namely Na3.40 □0.60 Co0.5 Fe0.5 V(PO4 )3 , demonstrating the excellent electrochemical performance is reported. The presence of Co allows a third Na+ to participate in the reaction thus exhibiting a high reversible capacity of ≈155 mAh g-1 in the voltage range of 2.0-4.0 V versus Na+ /Na with a reversible single-phase mechanism and a small volume shrinkage of ≈5.97% at 4.0 V. 23 Na solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) combined with ex situ X-ray diffraction (XRD) refinements provide evidence for a preferential Na+ insertion within the Na2 site. Furthermore, the enhanced sodium kinetics ascribed to Co-substitution is also confirmed in combination with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), galvanostatic intermittent titration technique (GITT), and theoretical calculation.

RESUMO

Herein, we report a facile method combining top-down patterning transfer and bottom-up nanorod growth for preparing large-area and ordered TiO2 nanorod arrays. Pre-crystallization seeding was patterned with nanostructured morphologies via interfacial tension-driven precursor solution scattering on various types and period templates. This is a widely applicable strategy for capillary force-driven interfacial patterns, which also shows great operability in complex substrate morphologies with multiple-angle mixing. Moreover, the customized patterned lithographic templates containing English words, Arabic numerals, and Chinese characters are used to verify the applicability and controllability of this hybrid method. In general, our work provides a versatile strategy for the low-cost and facile preparation of hydrothermally growable metal oxide (e.g., ZnO and MnO2) nanostructures with potential applications in the fields of microelectronic devices, photoelectric devices, energy storage, and photocatalysis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Glioma is characterized by high morbidity, high mortality, and poor prognosis. Despite tremendous advances in the treatment of glioma, the prognosis of patients with glioma is still unsatisfactory. There is an urgent need to discover novel molecular markers that effectively predict prognosis in patients with glioma. The investigation of the role of WEE2-AS1 in various tumors is an emerging research field, but the biological function and prognostic value of WEE2-AS1 in glioma have rarely been reported. This study aimed to assess the value of WEE2-AS1 as a potential prognostic marker of glioma. METHODS: Gene expression (RNA-Seq) data of patients with glioma were extracted from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and the Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) databases. The Wilcoxon rank sum test was used to analyze the expression of WEE2-AS1 in the cells and tissues of glioma. The Kruskal-Wallis rank sum test, Wilcoxon rank sum test, and logistic regression were used to evaluate the relationship between clinical variables and expression of WEE2-AS1. Cox regression analysis and the Kaplan-Meier method were used to evaluate the prognostic factors in glioma. A nomogram based on Cox multivariate analysis was used to predict the impact of WEE2-AS1 on glioma prognosis. Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) was used to identify key WEE2-AS1-associated signaling pathways. Spearman's rank correlation was used to elucidate the association between WEE2-AS1 expression and immune cell infiltration levels. RESULTS: We found that WEE2-AS1 was overexpressed in a variety of cancers, including glioma. High expression of WEE2-AS1 was associated with glioma progression. We determined that the expression of WEE2-AS1 might be an independent risk factor for the survival and prognosis of patients with glioma. We further observed that the mechanism of WEE2-AS1-mediated tumorigenesis involved neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction, cell cycle, and the infiltration of immune cells into the glioma microenvironment. CONCLUSION: These findings demonstrate that WEE2-AS1 is a promising biomarker for the diagnosis and prognosis of patients with glioma. An increased understanding of its effects on the regulation of cell growth may lead to the development of clinical applications that improve the prognostic status of patients with glioma.

RESUMO

Here, we report a facile approach to fabricate large area ordered arrays of TiO2 hierarchical nanostructures through space-confined seeding and growth on inverted pyramid templates. The mechanisms of space-confined seeding and growth have been systematically explored and studied. The drying TiO2 seed precursor solution prefers to accumulate on the narrow structures including the centre and edges of the inverted pyramid structures, which facilitates to reduce the free energy of the precursor solution surface and form crystal seeds. Followed by hydrothermal treatment, selective growth of TiO2 hierarchical nanostructures on desirable locations, such as only on the centre, only on the edges, or on the entire surface of the inverted pyramid templates, can be achieved. In addition, the growth temperature, duration and solvents affect the morphology of TiO2 hierarchical nanostructures. This work may provide a universal approach to obtain ordered arrays of metal oxide (e.g. ZnO and MnO2, etc.) nanostructures for applications in optics, electrics, energy, and catalysis.

RESUMO

Multinodular and vacuolar neuronal tumor (MVNT) is a rare and benign neuroepithelial tumor. Most reports describe tumors located in the cerebral hemisphere. A literature review found that 15 cases were located in the posterior cranial fossa, but all lacked pathological evidence. In this case, a patient sought medical attention due to insomnia and irritability. Neuroepithelial tumors were found in the imaging, and the patient underwent radiation therapy. Three years later, malignant tumors were found upon imaging examination. After surgical resection and pathological testing, MVNT occurring in the cerebellum was diagnosed. MVNT is rare in the cerebellum, and direct imaging diagnosis becomes difficult after treatment. Therefore, our report of this case helps to further accurate understanding of the imaging, pathological, and molecular genetic changes occurring before and after MVNT treatment, and will improve the accuracy of pre-treatment diagnosis and reduce the likelihood of overtreatment.

RESUMO

Designing active and stable electrocatalysts with economic efficiency for acidic oxygen evolution reaction is essential for developing proton exchange membrane water electrolyzers. Herein, we report on a cobalt oxide incorporated with iridium single atoms (Ir-Co3O4), prepared by a mechanochemical approach. Operando X-ray absorption spectroscopy reveals that Ir atoms are partially oxidized to active Ir>4+ during the reaction, meanwhile Ir and Co atoms with their bridged electrophilic O ligands acting as active sites, are jointly responsible for the enhanced performance. Theoretical calculations further disclose the isolated Ir atoms can effectively boost the electronic conductivity and optimize the energy barrier. As a result, Ir-Co3O4 exhibits significantly higher mass activity and turnover frequency than those of benchmark IrO2 in acidic conditions. Moreover, the catalyst preparation can be easily scaled up to gram-level per batch. The present approach highlights the concept of constructing single noble metal atoms incorporated cost-effective metal oxides catalysts for practical applications.

RESUMO

Delta and Notch-like endothelial growth factor-related receptor (DNER) is a transmembrane protein that mediates signal communication between neurons and glial cells. This study was performed to elucidate the specific mechanism by which DNER inhibits human glioma growth. RNA sequencing was used to detect differentially expressed genes after DNER inhibition in glioma cells. The functions of the Torsin family 4 member A (TOR4A) gene were explored through cell proliferation and clonogenic assays, flow cytometric analysis, in vitro cell migration and invasion assays, in vivo glioma transplantation, and human glioma tissue analysis using the Chinese Glioma Genome Atlas database. Protein expression levels were determined using the western blot assay. We found that TOR4A was highly expressed after the inhibition of DNER in glioma cells. The prognosis of patients with gliomas that expressed high levels of TOR4A was worse than those with low levels of the protein. TOR4A promoted the proliferation of glioma cells and inhibited their apoptosis, likely by enhancing the expression of phosphorylated protein kinase B (p-AKT) and inhibiting that of antiapoptotic proteins. We confirmed that TOR4A is an oncogene and that DNER acts as a tumor suppressor gene by inhibiting TOR4A and its functions of promoting p-AKT and inhibiting antiapoptotic protein expression.

RESUMO

Transition metal oxides (TMOs) as high-capacity electrodes have several drawbacks owing to their inherent poor electronic conductivity and structural instability during the multi-electron conversion reaction process. In this study, the authors use an intrinsic high-valent cation substitution approach to stabilize cation-deficient magnetite (Fe3 O4 ) and overcome the abovementioned issues. Herein, 5 at% of Mo4+ -ions are incorporated into the spinel structure to substitute octahedral Fe3+ -ions, featuring ≈1.7 at% cationic vacancies in the octahedral sites. This defective Fe2.93 ▫0.017 Mo0.053 O4 electrode shows significant improvements in the mitigation of capacity fade and the promotion of rate performance as compared to the pristine Fe3 O4 . Furthermore, physical-electrochemical analyses and theoretical calculations are performed to investigate the underlying mechanisms. In Fe2.93 ▫0.017 Mo0.053 O4 , the cationic vacancies provide active sites for storing Li+ and vacancy-mediated Li+ migration paths with lower energy barriers. The enlarged lattice and improved electronic conductivity induced by larger doped-Mo4+ yield this defective oxide capable of fast lithium intercalation. This is confirmed by a combined characterization including electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic intermittent titration technique (GITT) and density functional theory (DFT) calculation. This study provides a valuable strategy of vacancy-mediated reaction to intrinsically modulate the defective structure in TMOs for high-performance lithium-ion batteries.
